Alright, we are back! It's Friday! But it's going to feel like a Monday. I know our memories are probably lapsing after three snow days, so we will start with a review, then do a couple of OPTICs, then read Ch. 1 of Enrique's Journey (which some of you have already read, but the rest of you will enjoy). Everything for today is in the attachments below.

Today we will be catching up and watching Jose Antonio Vargas' TED Talk, "Actions are Illegal, Never People." Then we are going to do a couple of OPTICS, which is a tool we use to analyze photos as texts.
BONUS OPPORTUNITY: Think YOU could come to America and automatically become a citizen? Immigration (and the process of citizenship) is harder than you think. Take a sample citizenship test at this website. Print or provide some proof of your results on the quiz. Then, write a one-paragraph reflection on how you did and your new feelings on what it takes to be an immigrant. Turn in by Monday, February 23, for some bonus love!
o Parent Power Presentation – March 3 at 6:30 in the Media Center
o Parents of 9th, 10th and 11th graders - Plan to attend the “College Credit Now” Summit on Thursday, March 12th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Campbell High School. Meet college representatives from Georgia State University, Georgia Highlands, Georgia Perimeter and Chattahoochee Technical College as well as representatives from the DOE. LEARN ABOUT 100% PAID TUITION AND EARNING COLLEGE CREDIT WHILE IN HIGH SCHOOL. Today we are going to review the concept of the "single story" from yesterday, then talk about single stories we have about immigration. The immigration section of this unit is one of my favorites all semester, so I hope that you learn a lot and enjoy! We'll be viewing the TED Talk "Actions are Illegal, Never People" by Jose Antonio Vargas. Here is a link:
Today we will be watching the documentary film "God Grew Tired of Us," about the Lost Boys of Sudan. We are using this to connect Unit 1 and Unit 2. You will love it!
Today you will be taking the Unit 1 Common Assessment, then we'll be going over the persuasive appeals, ethos, pathos, and logos, by looking at some commercials that utilize these appeals.
Media Center Monday! We will be going to the media center to set up your blogs and type the final draft of your personal memoirs.
