Today we are beginning the novella Anthem. We will be reading Ch. 1, answering guided reading questions together, and completing a character development chart for Equality 7-2521. Handouts you need for the book are here:
Today we are starting the core text of Unit 3, Ayn Rand's novella Anthem. The books are a class set, so all reading will be done in class. If you are absent/miss class from any reason, you MUST be sure to catch up on your reading. The text is widely available online. Here are a couple sites you can use to read: http://www.noblesoul.com/orc/texts/anthem/complete.html#A1.0 http://www.pagebypagebooks.com/Ayn_Rand/Anthem/ With only three weeks left, it is extremely important that you keep up with your work and take responsibility for your grades and your success. I have provided you with MANY opportunities to succeed. At this time, if you are struggling, it is a clear indicator that you have not taken advantage of all the opportunities that have been given to you. Remember: - ANY and ALL late work that you intend to turn in is due no later than next Friday, May 9. Start with projects, as they are worth the most points. Do not go back and do small assignments (less than 30 points). I will grade projects and major assignments. Please remember, per the policy in our syllabus, the maximum grade you can receive is a 70%, and that is for perfect work. - The Unit 3 extra credit that was assigned on Friday is also due no later than Friday, May 9. You have two options and you may complete one (for up to 100 points) or both (for up to 200 points). - You will have one final extra credit option that I am giving out in class today. That is due by Friday, May 16. Notes & Handouts for today are below:
If you are absent today, please see me to make up your vocabulary quiz. The two documents below are your extra credit options for Unit 3. You may do one or both. They are due by Friday, May 9.
Today we are going to switch gears a bit and do a creative assessment/performance task on the dystopian stories we have looked at so far. The instructions for this, a book jacket, are inside the powerpoint below. The final product is due on Thursday (although you should be able to finish it in class today).
Today we continue our dystopia unit by reading the story "2BR02B" by Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. Every day this week we will be looking at various short dystopian texts. Friday you will have an assessment on these, before we move into reading Ayn Rand's novella Anthem. Make sure you keep up!
Notes & Handouts below! Make sure you take care of any work that you owe me NOW. Do not delay!
Good morning! We are back to our regular schedule and operations today, after two crazy whirlwind days of registration! Please be reminded that your work from the last two days (Unit 3 Vocabulary Review and Create Your Own Dystopia) are both due to me for grading. Today, we are going to continue our study of dystopias as we read and annotate Kurt Vonnegut, Jr.'s "Harrison Bergeron." This is one of my favorite short stories. I think you will like it! In the PPT below, you will find today's notes, instructions, and reminders about some due dates. Please make sure you catch up if you are absent. The handouts below are post-reading activities/.homework due to me on MONDAY, 4/21. Reminder: Snow Day work was due yesterday. I will take it until Friday (tomorrow). Graphic Novels were due on Monday and should be turned in no later than Monday 4/21.
