Good morning! Today we are continuing our graphic novel project. We'll begin by reviewing the rubric and discussing the qualities of an "A" project. We then have the work session to storyboard and draft the novels. To finish up, we'll complete an exit slip with a summary of the plot. I am attaching a file below that are a bunch of templates you might want to use for the layout of your panels. This is NOT mandatory but it is available to you if you want it.

Good morning! And, of course, happy HUMP DAY!!!
Today in 1st and 2nd block, all 10th and some 11th grade students are taking the PSAT --- so I won't see you today. All other students will be working on storyboarding/drafting the graphic novel. Most of you came up with some really great plot lines yesterday, so I can't wait to see you put your words into graphic format. Reminders of the steps and due dates: Step 1 - Brainstorm plot - Tuesday 10/15 Step 2 - Storyboard - Wednesday 10/16-Friday 10/18 Step 3 - Get storyboard approved - Friday 10/18 Step 4 - Begin final draft - Monday 10/21-Tuesday 10/22 Step 5 - Complete final draft - Wednesday 10/23-Thursday 10/24 Step 6 - Due Date/Story Time! - Friday 10/25 Good morning! Today we are moving on to begin our graphic novel project. We'll start by students completing a survey on teacher effectiveness (school-wide), review the term/theme teen angst, introduce the graphic novel project, and begin to brainstorm/rough draft the story you'll be using in the graphic novel project. Some notes: 1) Character Logs are due today. These will be graded from your notebook. 2) If you didn't have your notebook graded on Thursday of last week, please make sure you leave it in the classroom so I can grade it. 3) I am in the process of grading your reading logs as well as your essays. These take a long time to read and grade each one. I promise they will be in as soon as possible! 4) PSATs are tomorrow, so I won't see a lot of you in 1st or 2nd block.
Today we're going to be in the media center with Ms. Packer, learning a little bit more about stereotypes, specifically in ABC. (P.S. Take the poll below to tell me how much you liked the book!) You'll get the chance to brainstorm some different stereotypes, identify alllllllllll the stereotypes we saw in ABC (you know there are a ton of them), and then create your own four-panel comic to show an instance in which stereotyping occurs. This is a perfect warm-up for our graphic novel project, which you'll learn more about tomorrow.
Two Announcements: 1) I have decided the body biography activity will be optional/supplementary/extra credit. You may earn up to 50 bonus points by completing this assignment to the best of your ability. I put the directions on here on Friday, and I also have copies, so see me if you need/want this. 2) Your character logs are due tomorrow, Tuesday 10.15. They must be completely filled out and your answers should NOT be identical to anyone else's. Remember that I have been available every morning and every afternoon for you to use a book, so not having a book does not = an excuse for not having your work. You want these points! Happy Friday! Today we are going to finish reading American Born Chinese (most of you seem to have enjoyed the book, yay!), complete the guided reading questions, and do an activity called body biographies. Homework (due Tuesday 10/15): Complete and turn in your character logs and your body biography. These are both pretty major grades related to our standard about characterization. You're working on analyzing the development of the complex characters in the text. Today all READING LOGS should be turned in - this is a BIG GRADE!!! And considering we have gone over all the answers in class together, there should be NO excuses for you to not have it done. Reminder: Monday we're going to be in the media center, doing a lesson on ABC with Ms. Packer.
Good morning. I hope you had an enjoyable break. Yesterday I was out, and students were supposed to read Chapters 4-5-6 of American Born Chinese, completing the reading logs and the character development logs. From the sub's notes as well as my review of the student work, I can see that some students worked very hard (thank you!!!) and some did nothing. For those who are behind, you will have to catch up on your own. Please come see me before or after school if you need help. Today we're back to the grind: EQ: How can I identify and analyze the theme of teen angst in a work of literature? How can I analyze the development of a complex character in the text? We'll start by doing a peer notebook check, then plunge into our reading of ABC, work on the reading logs, and go through the character logs together.
Last day before vacation!!! Woohoo!!! Today's Agenda: 1) QUIZ on graphic novel terms and concepts and introduction to American Born Chinese. BIG NOTE: If you read this tonight, you'll be one step ahead since you know about the quiz. It should be very easy. If you do see this, please write YES!!! in big letters on the top of your quiz. 2) Read Chapters 2, 3, and 4 of ABC. Work on your reading questions packet. 3) Introduce ABC Character Logs assignment to help you analyze one of the complex characters in ABC. 4) Work on and review the character logs.
Good morning! Happy October 1. Today we are focusing on starting to read American Born Chinese. If you do not have your copy of the book today, it is absolutely IMPERATIVE that you get this as soon as possible. We'll start by reviewing graphic novels terms and concepts, then look at a little background of the monkey king fable, start reading the first couple of chapters of ABC, and answer some reading questions together. Finally, we will do a peer notebook check. Remember that tomorrow is Wednesday
