Happy Tuesday! Today we are going to continue our unit on dystopia by reading a Ray Bradbury short story, "2BR02B." We'll read together and work on citing textual evidence and analyzing the themes and how they are related to dystopia. As time allows, you'll do a partner activity designing a book jacket for the story. NOTE: I WILL NOT HAVE AFTER-SCHOOL TUTORING TODAY. I WILL BE HERE ON THURSDAY UNTIL 5 PM.

Good morning! Travel brochures are due at the beginning of class today. Today we're moving forward by asking the EQ: How can I determine themes related to dystopia and Anthem in another text? And, how can I cite textual evidence to support my analysis of the text? We'll be reviewing all characteristics of dystopian society and then analyzing related themes in two texts: "The Trees" (song) by Rush, and the film "2081," based on Vonnegut's short story "Harrison Bergeron." Students will identify dystopian characteristics in both texts, annotate, and complete a graphic organizer comparing and contrasting the different texts.
Hello! We finished Anthem yesterday, so today we are moving forward with a short in-class project: The Travel Brochure. Your task is to create a persuasive travel brochure to convince people to come to the world of Anthem, with one catch --- you have to advertise it as a UTOPIA, not a DYSTOPIA. Which means you will have to put all your powers of argumentative writing into play, as you attempt to twist and embellish the truth to convince your audience that this is a great world. Remember your persuasive appeals - ethos, pathos, and logos! We'll work on this in class Thursday & Friday, and it is due at the BEGINNING of class on MONDAY, 11/1.
Happy Hump Day! Today we should be wrapping up Anthem. All reading guide questions are due tomorrow (Thursday) if you want a grade!
Good morning! We have a busy week coming up, as we continue to work through the novella Anthem and complete several related activities. It seems like most of you are enjoying the book so far - or at least you're interested by it and want to see how things are going to turn out! Also, it seems that most of you fully understand the concept of dystopia and its connection to perception vs. reality - so Unit 3 is off to a great start! Notes for today are attached - we're starting with a journal entry, reading, and then working on some graphic summaries of the most important events thus far in the book. Grades for the 12-week progress report are due tomorrow. As always, I grade as quickly as possible, but students need to be aware that LATE work is not a priority when I grade.
Happy Friday! Today we are continuing to read Anthem. We'll finish Ch. 1 and start Ch. 2, as well as have time to answer the questions on the reading guides. HOMEWORK: FINISH CHAPTER 1 QUESTIONS - DUE ON MONDAY, NOT TAKING THEM LATE! Have a great weekend!
