Well, guys, I can hardly believe today is the last day of regular class. What a quick semester! Today we're going to open with a final exam review in the form of 5-4-3-2-1 list/countdown. You'll have a chance to ask any last-minute questions and make sure you understand the writing prompt. Then, we're going to do a FUN activity related to internet memes. (Go look it up if you're not sure what that means!) You'll create a meme related to World Lit. It should be a good way to end. Pygmalion grades are going in, so make sure you check Synergy to know where you stand going into the final. Thanks for a great semester!!
Today we are working on our Pygmalion assessment, the dinner menu. Students completed appetizers yesterday and should have turned in the main dish/entree. By the end of the day today, students should be done with this assignment. Please note that all students received a copy of a study guide for the final exam yesterday. The document is below if you need to print it again. Thanks!
Countdown: only 3 days of class left, plus final exams! Today we are wrapping up Pygmalion with the text version of Act 5 and a few related activities. We will also begin the Pygmalion assessment. The take-home portion is due today. Students will complete this tomorrow.
Friday the 13th! Hapy Friday - and just one more week left to finish up the semester. Today we'll begin by reviewing Act 4 (read in Literature Circles yesterday) and brainstorming about the major plot event that is missing (gasp!) from the text. Then we will watch the film version of Acts 4 and 5, summarizing the plot line and all major events, and discuss why the filmmakers chose the ending they did. Some things to review for the Pygmalion assessment: - the Pygmalion motif and how the play relates to the myth - characterization (major and minor characters) - social class issues - the importance of language Reminder: Your take-home section of the Pygmalion test is due on Monday. The rest of the test will be Monday and Tuesday, in class. Finals are Thursday (1st and 2nd block) and Friday (3rd block). Have a great weekend!
We are still trying to make our way through Act 2. To expedite, today we will be watching Act 2, introducing Act 3 and reading a summary of it, and then watching Act 3. Students are responsible for completing all questions, character log, and compare/contrast film to the text graphic organizer. All these items will be used on Monday for the Pygmalion assessment, so it's important that they are completed!
Continuing Pygmalion today.... the goal is to get through it this week! Today's Agenda: 1) Watch Act 1 and complete compare/contrast graphic organizer of text to film 2) Act 2 background info & notes (power point posted yesterday) 3) Read Act 2 and complete character chart and reading questions 4) Watch Act 2 (if time) 5) Act 2 summarizer Reminders: ANY and ALL missing/make-up work is due to me by tomorrow, Wednesday 12/11. No exceptions! Today you are receiving the main dish for your Pygmalion test. This portion is to be done at home and is due on Monday 12/16. See the first page in the document below. (Disregard the second page, for now. It is subject to change!) The rest of the assessment/test for Pygmalion will be on Monday 12/16 and Tuesday 12/17.
Good morning! Hard to believe this is our last full week of class, but here we are. This week we are working our way through Pygmalion and discussing two major themes: 1) the idea of moving from rags to riches, and 2) the importance of not judging/stereotyping/"judging a book by its cover." Today we're focused on Act 1, as we didn't get to it on Friday. We'll move to Act 2 if we have time. Here are some things you might need:
