Happy Hump Day! Today we are beginning Unit 4 - "From Rags to Riches." This unit will focus primarily on the drama Pygmalion by George Bernard Shaw (from England). You may know this story better if you know the movie "My Fair Lady." Basically, it's a story of a how a poor girl from one of the worst areas of London becomes successful (in social status terms) through education and self-improvement. We'll use this as a vehicle to discuss real world success stories and the possibility that anyone can achieve their dreams if given access to the appropriate resources. It should be a great unit and an awesome way to wrap up the semester! Below is the PowerPoint for today and the Myth of Pygmalion, which kicks off our reading.
I hope everyone had a relaxing and enjoyable break! Today and tomorrow we are going to wrap up Unit 3/ Dystopia by watching the film "The Hunger Games." Students will complete a graphic organizer in which they compare/contrast the plots, characters, dystopian characteristics, and consider how analyzing a subject in film versus text adds or detracts from the subject matter. Wednesday we will be starting our last unit of the semester. One-Pagers and Glogsters that have not been turned in.... I will accept through the end of the day today. Email me your Glogsters to amyeganegi(at)gmail.com. We are on the downward slope.... keep up the good work! *Edited to add: Here is the graphic organizer and also a Unit 3 Reflection we are completing on Tuesday.
