Today we're going back to the computer lab to finish up your Unit 1 Projects. Make sure you review the PROJECT CHECKLIST to ensure that you have completed ALL the components. Also review the rubric given to you in class. This is your first MAJOR grade so you want to do your BEST!!! PROJECTS ARE DUE THIS FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 6.
Also remember if you need additional time at school/on the computer to work, I am here late on Tuesdays and Thursdays (and every morning).
Finally, a couple of reminders:
1) Your one-pagers must be turned in tomorrow (Wednesday). Remember that you should have turned in one for The House on Mango Street a couple of weeks ago (but if you didn't, turn it in now). You should also complete one more based on one of the other texts we studied in this unit (this was assigned last Thursday/Friday).
2) Your reading logs for the unit are due tomorrow. You should have 7 total, which means both pages of pp.8-9 in your notebook should be filled out. Don't worry about the very last line on the bottom; there isn't room to do a full entry there. I would say that everyone should have the same 7 texts, but I know that may not happen. To recap, here are all the ones you had to choose from:
"The Danger of a Single Story" (speech)
"Body Rituals Among the Nacirema" (informational text)
The House on Mango Street (or excerpts - "Hairs," "Those Who Don't," "The Family of Little Feet," "The First Job," "No Speak English") (short stories/memoirs)
"Identity" (poem)
"Fish Cheeks" (short story/memoir)
Funny in Farsi (or excerpt - "Hot Dogs and Wild Geese") (short story/memoir)
"My Life as an Undocumented Immigrant" (informational text)
*"We Are Going" (poem)
*"Legal Alien" (poem)
*"Presents from my Aunts in Pakistan" (poem)
*"Search for my Tongue" (poem)
(* you should only have read one of these poems)
If you have any questions or if this doesn't make sense, you must see me today in class!
