Mona Lisa Smile - Analyzing the film as a text through critical lenses - and how does it exemplify change in America?
Announcement re: "A Rose for Emily" assignment - you have until Thursday to turn it in. Focus on your Dear Smithsonian letter for tonight (Tuesday).
Tuesday, May 8 and Wednesday, May 9 - Reading and Analyzing Two American Short Stories - "A Rose for Emily" and "Hills Like White Elephants"
Monday: Work day in the classroom. Remember there is NO technology available at North Cobb due to EOCs. You are welcome to bring your own device, bring your book to read, or bring materials to work on if you are in the creation process. This is NOT a free day so please be prepared to work on your project.
Tuesday: By the end of the day you should submit your completed rough draft of your "Dear Smithsonian" letter to my gmail address.
A good way to think about this is writing requirement is a combination of an informational and argumentative text: 1) Explain who your author is, what they are known for, how they have influenced American literature, and what is important about the particular text you are reading; 2) Persuade your reader (the Smithsonian museum) that your author and specifically this text are worthy of their own exhibit, with plenty of evidence about why.
Remember that it's a formal letter, so consider your formatting and your language.
Back to the assignment - I will read these and provide feedback in order of submission, so the earlier you submit it, the earlier you will get it back from me. I will provide you with thorough feedback, which I expect to see reflected in your final draft. I will NOT spend time editing a rough draft if it is clear that you have spent zero time proofreading it yourself, so please do that work up front. On-time submissions will receive a 100. Late submissions will not earn a grade, although I will still give you feedback if you would like it.
