Project Directions
You received the Unit 1 Project information on Tuesday 8/16. The project is due by Monday 8/29, with a little incentive if you would like to turn it on Friday 8/26. The directions and handout you received are linked below. Click to download in case you lose yours or need to see it again!
Remember, we will be in the media center on Wednesday 8/24, Thursday 8/25, and Friday 8/26. Plan ahead if you will need additional computer time - you will need to work at home!

Where I'm From piece
We read examples on Monday 8/15. Use the original poem by George Ella Lyon as your model. If you feel good about writing poetry then feel free to leave the template and write a more unique piece, kind of like "Identity Card" by Mahmoud Darwish. You should write in poetic form - and remember, poems don't have to rhyme! |
|
Name piece
We read multiple examples of pieces about names on Wednesday 8/17. Your end result should be a narrative of approximately one page, in which you reflect on your full name, its meaning(s), how you got the name, whether or not it reflects you, and at least one anecdote about your name. Have fun with this! All names are special. |
|
Food piece
Food is an important part of life! Think about how often food comes up in stories about culture and identity and family. We have read many examples of stories that involve food. Now you have to reflect on food's importance in your life and home. Tell a story about what your life tastes like, in approximately one page, with all the components of narrative writing. |

Choice pieces
You choose your format (narrative short story, essay, or poem) and your topic (culture shock, family experiences, language barriers, school experiences, important moments in your life, lessons learned, stereotypes or misunderstandings, etc.) Just keep working on using the key components of narrative writing (imagery and sensory details, figurative language, dialogue, strong hooks and conclusions, etc.)
